Each year the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade participates in the Trucker Buddy program. Trucker Buddy matches classes with a professional trucker driver who writes to the class and tells them about their
trips. The students improve their reading, writing, and geography, skills by writing to their Trucker Buddy and keeping up with their travels on a map.
Jay joined the program in 2004. Normally a class will write to their trucker buddy once a month.
Trucker Buddy, Jay Randolph, wanted to try something new. Instead of having the children write once a month, the children come to the computer lab during their free time to e-mail Mr.
Jay. They can e-mail him as often as they want. In addition to answering all their e-mails, Mr.
Jay sends postcards from around the country so they can keep up with his travels.
Mr. Jay makes several visits to his classes to answer questions and show them his truck.
Mr. Jay got involved with the children to help the children but feels he has
gotten just as much out of the program with Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas cards.
